EVERGREEN PARK, IL, USA - Bandipur, located 4.34mi (7km) above the Dumre Bazaar along the Prithvi Highway about 60mi (96.56km) west of Kathmandu is home to one of many Newari settlements in Nepal. The Newar people are known for their attention to detail in craftsmanship and architecture - it is said that any cultural item or building in Nepal with intricate carvings and designs was most likely done by a Newar. Newari architecture can be found throughout this village on homes, businesses and temples....

EVERGREEN PARK, IL, USA - Co-Founder Bijay Kumar Rana was given the opportunity to visit the areas of Jomsom and Muktinath, one of the most popular trekking excursions in Nepal: "We woke up and there was a beautiful sunrise on the mountains full of white snow, and the golden rays of the sun had made the snow shine like gold along the mountain top. When I saw it, first I shouted and went back to our rooms to wake my friends...after they all came out and saw the [beauty] we all shouted and were [so] happy!..."

Many years ago, Mukunda Sen, Raja of Palpa, gained control over all the surrounding areas, including Bandipur, which at that time was inhabited by many Magars and some Kamis, and became ruler over many types of people. He had unified many under one throne, yet his accomplishments were not satisfactory. He felt something lacking, and longed for spiritual strength...

The Raja of Tanahu was extremely brave and cunning. He held his dominion longer than most contemporaries. He was particularly successful in defeating Prithvi Narayan Shah of Gorkha in battles held on the tops of the cliffs in Bandipur. However, one time they agreed to have a battle along the banks of the river Marsyangdi at which no swords could be used...
