Skills-Training Programs

Our Skills-Training Programs focus on jobs and industries high in-demand in Nepal and in the Bandipur area. Students gain hands-on experience with instructors and businessmen/women who are well-known in the field and have many years of experience.

-The classroom of each program is located at the place of business specific to the program, i.e. Wood Working and Carpentry is located at the Carpenter's place of business. Students will use machinery most commonly used in each industry and learn the ins-and outs of conducting all aspects of business in that industry.

-We highly encourage all students to engage themselves and ask questions if they have them. It is recommended that students come prepared and bring a pad of paper and a writing utensil to each class session.

-The age limit for our students to begin their studies is 14 years of age. All students under the legal age of 14 may attend classes and practice their skills, however they may not enter the job industry until they reach the legal age of 18. Adults may enter our skills training programs as well.

-Should they choose, students may take the skills they learn and seek employment with external companies unrelated to DHF or they may enter our Business Development Program where they may start their own businesses through DHF. Should they choose to seek assistance in the DHF Business Development Program, a portion of the profits made from the students' new business goes towards DHF to help support it's programs and services.

-Should a new student choose to enter our Skills-Training Programs, DHF makes a considerable effort to seek out support from our Donors and Volunteers as these programs cannot continue without the public's help.

Sewing Skills Training
Our most current program is our Sewing Skills Training Program in which students gain the knowledge needed to succeed in the sewing and textiles industry. Students are required to attend classes for 2 hours each evening, 5 days a week, 4-6 months out of the year. The classroom is located at a local seamstresses place of business either in Bandipur or neighboring Dumre. The classroom is equipped with sewing machines, supplies, and textiles local to the community, enough for each student. From day one, students begin their learning experience using the equipment and supplies provided. They learn how to create and design clothes such as the Short Cholo, Large Cholo, and Kurtha, and are given a range of textiles to choose from including cotton, wool, and synthetic materials.

Culture and Heritage Programs

Our Culture and Heritage Programs focus on many traditions, holidays, and other common celebrations specific to the Bandipur community. Celebrations such as Tihar and Dashain are two of the most popular and well-known traditions of the people in the village. Each year, DHF gathers all of it's families and children to celebrate these traditions together as a community. The children learn of traditional song and dance, folktales, and rituals particular to a certain celebration or holiday. Bandipur has a diverse population, with children and families coming from many local cultural backgrounds. During DHF's gatherings, children and families are free to share some of their personal rituals and stories specific to their heritage as a time for learning and cultural understanding and exchange within the community.

Community Projects
Rubbish Days
Each Sunday, the Co-founders and the DHF Kids & Families collect rubbish found lying in the streets and gardens of Bandipur. Garbage can often be found clogging and polluting Bandipur's streams and major drinking water sources that many locals rely on everyday. DHF has committed one day per week to help the community be clean and pollution free for all citizens to live healthy and enjoy the natural beauty surrounding Bandipur.
